Do you know what I really like about running my own small business? It gets you in touch with really lovely people. The other day I had a customer who didn’t have access to her computer so I called her and we spent half an hour talking about our experience with certain products and other health related topics. She’s been after a glass straw because she didn’t want to use a metal one in a sole drink she’s doing for herself. Metal seems to create a certain reaction she wanted to avoid. She told me all about the sole production (sole is a mixture of water and Himalayan salt which gives some people a really good energy boost). She mentioned that there might be other people who might want a glass straw for exactly this mixture. It got me thinking that it would be nice to ask more of my customers which product they would love to see on my website and I did send out an email asking for my customer’s recommendations. I wanted to know which products they would love to see and surprisingly I had quite a big response. From nut milk bags to glass filters, from glass bottles to food covers from steel lunch boxes to many more. A few of these products got even more than one votes so I am really inspired by my customers to look into these product recommendations. I’ve already found a few suppliers and ordered some samples so hopefully there will be some new products on our website soon. I only ever put products on the website which I’ve tried and liked. I would never want to sell a product which I wouldn’t buy for myself. This is one of the reasons it often takes me quite a while to add new products as I do want high quality products only which meet certain criteria.
Sometimes I do some London based stalls and this is also a great opportunity to have a chat with my lovely customers. Some tell me their whole life story and some just share their passion about healthy and toxin free products. I honestly like those chats. It’s great to know that many other people care about the environment and their health and it seems that more and more people are aware of certain unhealthy products which I think is fantastic.
So if you are running your own business why don’t you get in touch with your customers from time to time on a personal level, not newsletters but a nice one to one chat? I am sure you will be inspired as I always are.
