The new year started with getting stuck at the airport with all the kids and tons of heavy luggage packed with Christmas presents and things you can buy in Germany but not in the UK. Our flight was cancelled because of a storm in the UK and the only chance to get back to London was early in the morning flying of the following day – and to London City instead of Heathrow (which would have been a 25 minute drive to our place). So we ended up getting up at 3.30am in the morning, dragging our kids and (the still heavy) luggage to the airport.

Do you also sometimes wonder how amazing it is that your kids are totally different from each other despite treating them in the same way? I’ll give you an example about eating habits of my three kids.

Last year in September I did my first trade show (Top Drawer) in London Olympia and it’s been quite a challenge. Getting everything ready for the stand plus spending three days in a row staying in your stand as well as talking to a lot of people is exhausting. My panels, plinth and info material arrived just in time during the week before the show started. I was frightened that something might not be ready in time. What, for example, should I have done if the plinth would not have been ready? Finding an alternative in just a couple of days would have been very tricky as I got a customised one to fit all the 24 different designs of my stainless steel water bottles I’ve got. But it arrived in time. There are many other things that can go awry as I was about to find out though.

Do you know what I really like about running my own small business? It gets you in touch with really lovely people. The other day I had a customer who didn’t have access to her computer so I called her...

I wanted to share my four year experience as a Mumpreneur with you. I started off with my online business at the end of 2010. I still remember receiving my first web order ever and being super happy about it. I’ve been driving in the car with my noisy kids in the back waiting for the signal to turn when the Email came in with a little “bing”. I couldn’t read it as I was driving but back home I read it and it made me so proud. I had invested in 5500 bottles which were sitting in my shed so this meant one stainless steel bottle sold and only 5499 to go... 

I was asking myself: does a person need changes? And if so, does my business need changes because I need changes? Why do I ask myself these questions? I am running this business for a bit over five years now...

A great thing that really helped me and my business at the beginning (and still does) is skill swapping. I got to know a lot of people, especially women, who decided not to go back to work after having children and set up their own business instead. Those people already possess  lots of invaluable skills from their previous job. Most also added important skills whilst setting up their own business.
